Crispy Mozzarella Cheese Sticks
Ingredients
- 12 mozzarella cheese sticks
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 2 cups Italian-seasoned breadcrumbs
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- Oil for frying
- Marinara sauce for serving
Instructions :
Step 1: Prepare the Cheese Sticks
- Cut Cheese Sticks: Cut the mozzarella cheese sticks in half to make 24 shorter sticks.
- Set Up Coating Stations:
- Place the flour in a shallow dish.
- In a separate shallow dish, whisk together the eggs and milk.
- In a third shallow dish, combine the breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, and dried basil.
Step 2: Coat the Cheese Sticks
- First Coat:
- Dredge each cheese stick in the flour, shaking off any excess.
- Dip the flour-coated cheese stick into the egg mixture.
- Roll it in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing to adhere the breadcrumbs.
- Second Coat: Repeat the dipping and coating process a second time for each cheese stick to ensure a thick coating.
Step 3: Freeze the Cheese Sticks
- Freeze: Place the coated cheese sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Freeze for at least 1 hour or until solid.
Step 4: Fry the Cheese Sticks
- Heat Oil: Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry: Fry the cheese sticks in batches for 1-2 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Do not overcrowd the fryer.
- Drain: Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Step 5: Serve
- Serve Hot: Serve the mozzarella cheese sticks hot with marinara sauce for dipping.
