Ingredients:

  • 6 slices bacon, chopped

  • 1 large head cabbage, cored and sliced

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Bacon:
    • In a large skillet or frying pan, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon pieces with a slotted spoon and set them aside on a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Leave the bacon grease in the skillet.
  2. Sauté the Onion and Garlic:
    • Add the diced onion to the skillet with the bacon grease. Sauté over medium heat until the onion is translucent and slightly browned, about 5 minutes.
    • Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute, stirring constantly, until fragrant.
  3. Cook the Cabbage:
    • Add the sliced cabbage to the skillet. Stir to coat the cabbage in the bacon grease and mix it with the onions and garlic.
    • Cook the cabbage, stirring occasionally, until it becomes tender and slightly caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. You can cover the skillet with a lid to help the cabbage soften more quickly.
  4. Season and Serve:
    • Season the cabbage with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using) to taste.
    • Stir in the cooked bacon pieces. Continue to cook for another 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
