Fried Cabbage
### Ingredients:
– 1 medium head of green cabbage, chopped
– 1 medium onion, diced
– 4-6 slices of bacon, chopped (optional)
– 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
– Salt and black pepper, to taste
– Red pepper flakes (optional, for a little heat)
– 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (optional, for a tangy flavor)
### Instructions:
1. **Cook the Bacon (if using):**
– In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon from the skillet and set it aside on a paper towel to drain. Leave about 1-2 tablespoons of the bacon grease in the skillet.
2. **Sauté the Onion and Garlic:**
– Add the diced onion to the skillet (with the bacon grease, or add olive oil/butter if not using bacon) and sauté until it becomes translucent, about 3-5 minutes.
– Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
3. **Cook the Cabbage:**
– Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet. Stir well to coat the cabbage in the oil and mix with the onions and garlic.
– Season with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.
– Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for about 10-15 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender and slightly caramelized.
4. **Add the Bacon and Vinegar:**
– If using bacon, add the cooked bacon back to the skillet and stir to combine.
– For a tangy flavor, drizzle the apple cider vinegar over the cabbage and stir well.
5. **Serve:**
– Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed. Serve hot as a side dish or main dish.
Enjoy your delicious **Fried Cabbage**!
