French Apple Cake

### French Apple Cake

#### Ingredients:

– 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour

– 1 tsp baking powder

– A pinch of salt

– 2 large eggs

– 3/4 cup (150g) sugar

– 1/2 cup (120ml) unsalted butter, melted and cooled

– 3 tbsp (45ml) dark rum (optional)

– 1 tsp vanilla extract

– 3/4 cup (180ml) whole milk

– 3-4 medium apples (preferably a mix of sweet and tart apples)

– Confectioners’ sugar for dusting

#### Instructions:

1. **Preheat your oven** to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan.

2. **Prepare the apples**: Peel, core, and slice the apples thinly.

3. **Mix dry ingredients**: In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

4. **Mix wet ingredients**: In a large bowl, whisk the eggs and sugar until light and fluffy. Gradually add the melted butter, rum (if using), and vanilla extract, mixing well. Add the milk and whisk until combined.

5. **Combine**: Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. The batter will be quite thin.

6. **Fold in the apples**: Gently fold in the sliced apples until they are fully coated with the batter.

7. **Bake**: Pour the mixture into the prepared cake pan, smoothing the top. Bake for about 50-60 minutes, or until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

8. **Cool and dust**: Let the cake cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring it to a wire rack. Once cooled, dust with confectioners’ sugar.

9. **Serve**: This cake can be served warm or at room temperature. It pairs beautifully with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
