Classic American Caramel Flan

🍮 Classic American Caramel Flan

Ingredients

For the Caramel:

1 cup granulated sugar

2 tablespoons water

For the Flan:

5 large eggs

1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk

1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

Add sugar and water to a saucepan over medium heat. Cook until the sugar melts and turns deep golden brown.

Quickly pour the caramel into a 9-inch round baking dish and swirl to coat the bottom.

In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, condensed milk, evaporated milk, vanilla, and salt until smooth.

Pour the custard over the caramel.

Place the dish in a larger baking pan and pour in hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the flan dish.

Bake for 50–60 minutes, until the center is just set but still slightly jiggly.

Cool completely, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours.

Run a knife around the edges, invert onto a serving plate, and let the caramel sauce flow over the top.
